Kathleen Hope Jones

PENOBSCOT – Kathleen Hope Jones, 80, died peacefully in her sleep Mother’s Day, May 12, 2013, at her home. She was born Aug. 19, 1932, in Oakfield, daughter of George and Margaret (Pratt) Richards.
She was a devoted mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a dedicated work ethic, working as head cook at Penobscot Elementary School for 23 years. Prior to that working jobs everywhere and anywhere even picking potatoes in Aroostook County as a child, where as a teen she fell in love with her husband-to-be as he was guarding German prisoners in the fields. She then moved back to Blue Hill with Lester at age 19, married and started their family.
Kathleen is survived by her granddaughter, Angela Jones of Bangor; granddaughter, Jill Jones Carter and husband, Aaron, and their boys, Isaiah and Everett; grandson, Adam Jackson and his daughter, Isabel; granddaughter, Heather Jackson and husband, Craig, and their daughter, Phoebe. She is also survived by her daughter, Linda Jones; daughter-in-law, Geneva Jones; sisters, Layla Sargent of Florida and Sadie Charmicheal of Houlton; and brother, Clyde Richards of East Corinth. She was predeceased by her husband, Lester Jones; son, Michael Jones; brothers, Walter, Milford, Clayton, Alden, George and James Richards; sisters, Melvina, Irene, Lyona, Edrie, Venessa and Lenora. The family would like to thank Moira Whalen, Margaret and Angie of Hospice of Hancock County as well as the staff of Blue Hill Memorial Hospital.
