PORTLAND, Maine — A New Hampshire man was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court to 15 years and eight months in federal prison on charges related to two bank robberies in York County in November 2011.

Bernie Subocz, 45, of Manchester, N.H., was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay more than $15,000 in restitution.

He pleaded guilty in October to two counts of bank robbery and one count each of interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle and aiding and abetting the same, and interstate transportation of stolen money and aiding and abetting the same.

By pleading guilty, Subocz admitted that on Nov. 19, 2011, he robbed a Bank of America branch in Wells of more than $4,200 while his girlfriend, Christie R. Hendrix, 34, and friend Neil E. West, 61, both of Manchester, N.H., waited in the car.

On Nov. 22, 2011, Subocz stole a Toyota Avalon from a New Hampshire car lot. The next day, he robbed the Savings Bank of Maine branch in York of nearly $11,000 while Hendrix drove the stolen Toyota, according to court documents.

The money was used to buy drugs, according to court documents.

Hendrix, who was repeatedly beaten by Subocz, including on the day of the second robbery, was sentenced in August to 22 months in prison. She pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting bank robbery in connection with the Nov. 23, 2011, robbery. Hendrix was not charged with the Nov. 19, 2011, bank robbery.

West pleaded guilty in October to aiding and abetting bank robbery in connection with the Nov. 19, 2001, bank robbery. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 4.

Subocz faces up to 20 years in federal prison on the bank robbery charges and up to 10 years on the other charges.

West, as did Hendrix, faces up to 10 years in federal prison on the aiding and abetting charge.
