HAMPDEN and SHERMAN – Virginia (Thayer) Sprague, 90, passed into the Lord’s arms May 15, 2013. She was born Nov. 1, 1922, daughter of Louis & Inez (Whitaker) Thayer. She grew up in Oneonta, N.Y., and moved to Maine in 1952.
Mom enjoyed ceramics, square dancing, sewing, plants, crocheting and family gatherings. She enjoyed bingo and sitting with her friend, Al. She was a member of the Women’s Club, Sherman, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Howland. She belonged to the South Levant Baptist Church.
Mom leaves daughters, Linda and Ray Albert, Annie King, Elaine and Robert Neilander, Amber and Skip Young, Cindy Jones and Richard Catruch, Phyllis and Tom Wolf; sons, Danny and Judee Sprague and Chris Sprague; stepson, Tom Sprague; brother, Clarence Thayer of Oregon City, Ore.; 33 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and many others. She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Inez Thayer; husbands, Ralph Sprague in 1959 and Ben Sprague in 2005; four sons, Dennis Lockwood, Timothy Lockwood, Jerry Kirkwood and Benjamin Sprague; son-in-law, Robert King Sr.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at South Levant Baptist Church, Horseback Road, Levant, with Pastor Philip Bean officiating. Donations in her memory may be sent to Parkinson’s Foundation, 7700 Leesburg Pike, Suite 208, South Lobby Falls Church, VA 22043. Internment will be held at a later date.
