Bangor police warn public about blocking intersections

BANGOR, Maine — Police have received several complaints recently about traffic blocking intersections and are stepping up patrols throughout the city as a result.

The intersection at Broadway and Falvey Streets, located just north of the Interstate 95 on- and off-ramps, is too often clogged with traffic, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards. Police are asking drivers to obey traffic lights and be patient and courteous.

“When you approach any intersection and traffic is heavy with a green light, you cannot enter the intersection and block all four ways,” Edwards said, noting that should the light turn red, vehicles within the intersection would be hindering traffic moving in other directions.

Bangor police will be keeping an eye on other busy intersections throughout the city as well.

“Be patient at busy intersections, and do your part to allow the free flow of traffic,” Edwards said.
