PARSONSFIELD, Maine — A York County man was killed Sunday afternoon after losing control of his motorcycle, according to police.

Shawn Smith, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene on Route 25 near the Parsonsfield-Cornish town line, Chief Deputy William King of the York County Sheriff’s Office said.

A second driver, Constance Wood, 67, of Parsonsfield was heading southbound in her 2004 Buick when she crested a hill and saw Smith, heading north, coming at her in the southbound lane, according to King.

When Smith, who was wearing a helmet, tried to return to his own lane, he lost control, laid the bike down and struck Wood’s stopped vehicle, the chief deputy said.

Wood was not injured in the crash, which remains under investigation.
