South Bristol man killed in car crash early Sunday

SOUTH BRISTOL, Maine — Police believe that both speed and alcohol were factors in an early Sunday morning crash on Route 129 that claimed the life of a 55-year-old local man, a press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office states.

John Galloni, 55, was driving a 1995 Jeep Cherokee south on Route 129 at about 12:31 a.m. and crashed about a mile south of Harrington Road.

The Jeep “entered the northbound lane and then [went] into the northbound shoulder where it struck several trees and a rock wall,” Lt. Rand Marker of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in the release. “After striking the rock wall, the Jeep rolled over at least one time, coming to a rest on its roof facing south.”

Deputies arrived at the scene within four minutes and found Galloni deceased, the lieutenant said. He was the lone occupant and was not wearing a seat belt.

“Deputies believe both speed and alcohol were factors in this crash,” Maker said.

Crash reconstruction investigators were at the scene collecting evidence for about three hours and deputies are interviewing people who were with or saw Galloni in the hours before his death.

Those with information are asked to contact the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 882-7332.
