A Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by John Pelletier, 62, of New Sharon, was struck by a tractor-trailer operated by Darrell Spaulding, 42, of Sangerville on Route 2 in New Sharon Thursday.

NEW SHARON, Maine — A New Sharon man whose pickup truck collided Thursday with a tractor-trailer died Friday afternoon at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

John Pelletier, 62, died at Central Maine Medical Center of injuries suffered in the collision, Stephen McCausland of the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a release.

Pelletier drove his pickup truck into the path of a big-rig as he was exiting his driveway on Route 2, Maine State Trooper Reid Bond reported. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Darrell Spaulding, 42, of Sangerville, was not injured.

Route 2 was closed for four hours, McCausland said.

State police are looking at alcohol and a medical issue as potential causes for Pelletier’s death.
