ROCKLAND, Maine — The warm summerlike weather Tuesday prompted an inappropriate stroll on a public beach by a local man, according to police.

Roy A. Allen, 45, of Rockland, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with indecent conduct.

Police received a report shortly after 5 p.m. that a man was walking naked on the beach by South Street, according to Rockland Deputy Police Chief Wally Tower. An affidavit filed in Rockland District Court by police said that three teenage girls said they were walking on the beach and he came running by naked and pointed at his “wee wee.”

An officer responded and found Allen sitting, clothed, on the beach with a woman. Allen was drinking a Budweiser, according to the police report.

When Allen saw the officer, he acknowledged he was in trouble because the woman he was with had a protection from abuse order filed against him. He also said he had been naked but did nothing wrong, according to police.

Allen was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland. The affidavit stated that Allen became increasingly agitated and eventually jail officers had to subdue him. Allen appeared to be intoxicated, according to the police report.

A bail commissioner set bail at $300 cash but Allen’s probation officer ordered a hold on the man. At Allen’s initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon he entered a not guilty plea. Judge Patricia Worth set bail at $1,000 cash, but he remained jailed on the probation violation.
