WATERVILLE, Maine — A local man police described as upset over a breakup was arrested Tuesday after allegedly slashing the tires and breaking the rear windshield of his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle.

Andrew Dewar, 18, who also was wanted on a warrant for unpaid fines, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon, Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.

The incident occurred on Sunday around 5:30 p.m., the deputy chief said, when it was reported the woman’s car had been damaged and her tires slashed.

Dewar had fled the scene before police could arrive, Rumsey said.

On Tuesday, Dewar was spotted walking on Water Street by Officer Kyle McDonald, Rumsey said, and the officer stopped to question him.

Dewar was placed under arrest, charged with domestic violence criminal threatening, brought to Kennebec County Jail and later released on bail.
