Visitors bureau, Bangor museum team up to offer guided local tours

BANGOR — The Greater Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau announced a new partnership with the Bangor Museum and History Center to offer guided tours across the Bangor region. The eight tours will feature four walking and four bus tours all with an experienced guide beginning in June. Each tour will take guests through a part of Bangor’s history with a different focus and flair, from a Stephen King literary tour to a Best of Bangor tour chronicling 178 years of the region’s past.

“We’re really excited to showcase Bangor and its history in an interactive way,” said Jennifer Pictou, executive director of the Bangor Museum and History Center. “It’s wonderful to be able to partner with an organization like the Greater Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau to bring educational entertainment to our region. We’re really looking forward to kicking off the tours in June and start showing off Bangor in a new and interactive way.”

The Bangor Museum and History Center will provide historical content for the majority of the tours and training guides on the 8 different excursions. The visitors bureau will coordinate tour schedules and their corresponding guides as well as marketing and ticket sales.

“This summer we are looking to bring a one-stop for visitors and citizens looking for something fun to do in Bangor,” said Kerrie Tripp, executive director of the of the Greater Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The partnership with the museum will allow us to have well trained, top-notch tour guides that will offer a great experience to anyone coming to Bangor.”

The four walking tours are three-quarters to a mile long. The Mount Hope Cemetery Tour will be available starting Friday, June 7. The Devil’s Half-Acre Tour will be available starting Tuesday, June 11. The Mount Hope Cemetery Twilight Tour will be available beginning Friday, Oct. 4. The Ghostly Bangor Tour will be available beginning in October with guided tours on Thursdays and Saturdays.

The four bus tours are approximately one and a half hours long and will feature step-on services for group motor coach tours. The Tommyknockers and More Tour wil be available beginning Thursday, July 4. The Best of Bangor Tour, Monument Tour and Ghostly Bangor are available by advanced ticket purchase only.

All walking and bus tours will have guides available for private groups. Group ticket reservations must be purchased in advance.
