Newton Richard Curtis

LINCOLN – Newton Richard Curtis, 75, husband of Earline (Buzzell) Curtis, passed away May 5, 2013 at a Lincoln hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1938, in Hermon, to Decima L. Curtis. Decima died in childbirth and Newton was raised as a son by his grandparents, George and Lida Curtis, and he was a special “son” to them.

Newton attended Lincoln schools and served in the U S Army. He enjoyed working in his garden.

He married Earline Buzzell and they have two sons, Richard Curtis and wife, Heidi, and Ronnie Curtis, both of Lincoln. He also leaves three sisters, Mary Parsons of Lincoln, Lorena Powers of East Millinocket and Vicky Knights and husband, Edwin, of Brookton; two brothers, Gordon of Howland and Calvin of Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Leola Curtis, Dora Curtis and Clarice Poitras; brothers-in-law, Melvin Chesley and Lloyd Buzzell and wife, Helen. He also leaves a special friend, Cliffy Kneeland of Lincoln. In addition to his birth mother and his “special parents” grandparents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Glendine Maiwald, Peggy Powers, and Joyce Chesley; two brothers, George Curtis Jr. and Franklin Curtis; and brother-in-law, Alpheus Buzzell.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, at Lincoln Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald Littlefield officiating.
