NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine — A Fairfield man accused of stabbing a man in the back with a pocket knife was arrested early Sunday, police said.

Police responded to a Bigelow Hill road residence shortly after 3 a.m., when it was reported two men had been fighting, Lt. Carl Gottardi of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

During the fight, Joshua Cummings, 27, of Fairfield allegedly stabbed the other man, Gottardi said.

Cummings was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, Gottardi said. He was treated at Redington Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan for cuts sustained in the fight before being transported to Somerset County Jail, where he remained Monday.

The 34-year-old man from Norridgewock who was stabbed was treated at the Skowhegan hospital and released, Gottardi said.

The District Attorney’s office is reviewing the case and additional charges are possible.
