ORONO, Maine — Christian Ejiga has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Maine in the fall and play for the men’s basketball team, UMaine men’s basketball head coach Ted Woodward announced in a press release Thursday.

“We are very excited to have Christian join our basketball team for the fall,” said Woodward. “Christian provides us a physical frontcourt presence at [6-foot-9, 230 pounds]. He can score facing the basket, back to the basket, and has the potential to be a high-level defensive and rebounding force from the interior,” Woodward said in the release.

“He plays with great passion, and is a very versatile player with skills, size and strength, and tremendous potential,” Woodward added. “Christian is an excellent student and person, and he will be a great addition to the campus environment here at Maine. He is a wonderful addition to our freshman class for the fall.”

Ejiga, a forward from Nigeria, played for the Hyde School in Woodstock, Conn., where he averaged more than 16 points and 8 rebounds per game. He led the Wolfpack to the 2012 New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Class C Championship.

The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
