Bangor Raceway opens for 130th harness racing season Saturday

BANGOR, Maine — The 130th season of racing at Bangor Raceway coincides with horse racing’s biggest day, the running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.

Harness racing will begin at Bangor Raceway with a 2:30 p.m. post time and the track will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. for simulcast wagering and watching, including the 6:24 p.m. post time for the Kentucky Derby.

“The banner event for fans of horse racing truly is the Kentucky Derby,” said Michael Hopkins, director of raceway operations at Hollywood Casino Bangor. “We had a great season in 2012 with live racing here at Bangor Raceway and we are looking to build upon it this year. The track is prepped and ready, and the drivers have been anxious for this day to come. We’re all looking forward to our 130th season here at Bangor Raceway.”

After opening day, racing continues at Bangor Raceway every Monday, Tuesday and Friday through July 20, with Saturday race cards added July 4, 13 and 20.

The Bangor season will feature a 5 p.m. post time Mondays and Tuesdays. That post time will be in effect on Saturdays in July as well as Mondays and Tuesdays, while Friday night post times will remain at 6 p.m. Saturday’s opening day will have a special post time of 2:30 p.m.
