BANGOR, Maine — Traffic on the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge, which connects Bangor and Brewer, will be reduced to one lane from May 22 until November while parts of the bridge are painted.
The project, which requires scraping and repainting the bridge’s guardrails, is scheduled to start on May 6, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards. Beginning on that date, traffic will also be affected on Summer Street in Bangor where the eastbound lanes will be closed, Edwards said.
Two-way traffic will be restored on Summer Street, but not the bridge, approximately one month after the project begins.
Motorists wishing to travel from Bangor to Brewer should use the Penobscot Bridge or the I-395 Veterans Memorial Bridge for the duration of the project, according to city officials.
