DAR STUDENT AWARDS

The Frances Deighton Williams Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently honored seniors from area high schools as DAR Good Citizens. The students were chosen by their schools on the basis of service, leadership, dependability, and patriotism. Sonia Mallar, DAR Good Citizen chairwoman, presented each student with a pin, a certificate, and a check from the chapter. The students included (from left) Joshua Orcutt, Nokomis Regional High School; Sian Douglas, John Bapst Memorial High School; Gabrielle Melcher, Bangor Christian Schools; Mackenzi McHugh, Central High School; Leah Jones, Bangor High School; and Ashley Langille, Hermon High School. Simon Burditt of Hampden Academy was not present. DAR Regent Julia McPike announced that Mallar had received the Martha Washington Medal for outstanding service to the Maine Sons of American Revolution.
