When a Minot man’s dog jumped onto his lap Tuesday afternoon while he was driving, he lost control of the car and ended up in the ocean, according to authorities.

John Dubuc, 68, was driving on Abner Point Road on Bailey Island just before 2 p.m. when he lost control of his 2011 Honda Accord and drove down the town landing and into Mackerel Cove, Lt. Gary Joyce of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Some fishermen ran over, tied a rope to a truck and pulled the car partway out of the water, according to Joyce. A tow truck was called to pull the car completely onto land.

No injuries were reported.
