BANGOR, Maine — Officials are investigating a fire that occurred at a Fourth Street apartment building on Tuesday evening, according to police.
Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Wednesday morning one man, Ernest Ashlock, 57, was arrested at the scene.
Ashlock, a tenant, told police and fire officials he needed to get back into the building at 94-96 Fourth Street to gather belongings from his apartment, according to Edwards.
After several warnings not to go into the building, Ashlock attempted to go inside and he was arrested and charged with obstructing government administration, the sergeant said.
Ashlock was brought to Penobscot County Jail and later released on bail, Edwards said.
Bangor police detectives, members of the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Bangor firefighters were on scene Wednesday investigating a cause and origin of the fire, Edwards said.
Any witnesses are asked to contact Bangor police at 947-7382, and ask to speak to the criminal investigation division. The department’s tip line can be accessed by pressing 6.
