Violet E. Smith

BANGOR – Violet E. Smith, 92, died April 29, 2013, at her home. She was born June 5, 1920, in Bangor, the daughter of Zigmunt and Eugenia (Tarnawiecka) Nanartonis.

Violet attended Bangor Schools and St. John’s School and worked for the catering service at Bangor International Airport and later worked in the lunch program for Bangor High School. She was a volunteer at Third Street Mission and was a member of several organizations including Goodtime Club, Glenburn, Riverside Grange, Eddington, Hampden Garden Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Port, Waterville. Violet loved to garden.

Surviving is two children, Dorothy Mularz of Winter Springs, Fla., and Donald Sutherland and wife, Brenda, of Glenburn; five grandchildren, Lisa Pelkey and husband, Raymond, of Eddington, Gregory Sutherland of Orrington, Scott Sutherland and wife, Tracy, of Bangor, Michael Mularz of Florida and Michelle Puppe of Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Alisa Pelkey, Bruce Sutherland and wife, Mariah, and Kalyn Sutherland; and two great-great-grandchildren, Alden and Audrey Sutherland. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Albert Smith; brother, Frank Nanartonis; granddaughter, Cheryl Erickson; and son-in-law, Donald Mularz.

Family and friends may visit noon-2 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where a graveside committal will be immediately afterward at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
