ORONO, Maine — A local woman is behind bars Tuesday after she was accused of threatening another woman with a knife on Monday evening, according to police.

Jean Dill, 49, of Bangor had been staying at a friend’s residence on Outer Essex Street, according to Orono police Sgt. Scott Lajoie. The sergeant said the friend did not want Dill drinking alcohol while staying at the residence.

Dill allegedly broke that promise Monday night. The homeowner returned home around 6:30 p.m. and discovered that Dill had consumed a six-pack of beer, the sergeant said.

The pair started arguing, and when the argument moved into the kitchen, Dill went over to a butcher block, allegedly pulled a knife and raised it in a threatening manner, according to Lajoie.

The woman tackled Dill against a counter and Dill dropped the knife, Lajoie said. Dill managed to break free by biting the other woman’s arm, at which point the woman pushed Dill into the living room and told a roommate to contact police.

Orono police Officer Dan Merrill and Sgt. Scott Scripture responded and questioned both women. Dill denied doing anything wrong, Lajoie said.

“Parts of her story were not consistent and did not make sense,” the sergeant said. “She said she only consumed one beer but was slurred and lost her balance a couple times.”

Dill was placed under arrest, charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison, and brought to Penobscot County Jail, Lajoie said.

Dill remained at the jail Tuesday afternoon.
