James ‘Jim’ Rowland Spellman

BREWER and DALLAS – James “Jim” Rowland Spellman, 55, passed away unexpectedly April 22, 2013, while traveling in Arizona. Jim was born Nov. 11, 1957, son of Roland F. and Ruth-Marie (Landry) Spellman.
Jim started his schooling in Bar Harbor, but mostly attended schools in Brewer. After graduating from Brewer High School in 1976, he attended classes at the University of Maine, and graduated with a major in electronics from Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, now Eastern Maine Community College. He had a strong work ethic and took great pride in his professional positions, especially his many years at DSC, Dallas and SEAKR Engineering, Denver. In addition to various sports like skiing, hiking and baseball, his other interests included travel, astronomy and photography. He had a great sense of humor and contagious smile. Jim had many wonderful friends, whom he treasured immensely.
Jim is survived by his parents of Brewer; and two sisters, Lorraine “Lori” Knapp and husband, Jay, of San Antonio and Lisa Porter and husband, Bob Davis, of Pittsburgh. Jim was also an incredible uncle to three nephews and a niece, Ian and Alex Knapp and Erica and Ryan Davis. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins. Jim was predeceased by his grandparents, George W. Landry Sr. and Ruth G. Landry, and Charles E. Spellman and Mary B. Spellman; and uncles, aunts, and a cousin.
A memorial service will be held later this summer in celebration of his life.
