WATERVILLE, Maine — A Thomas College softball player’s car was destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.

Waterville fire Lt. Scott Holst said Thursday Phyllicia Jordan reported having no mechanical issues with her 2001 Pontiac Grand Am.

Holst said Jordan was having lunch between classes around 12:45 p.m. when someone called her to say her vehicle was on fire in a campus parking lot.

No other vehicles were damaged and no injuries were reported, according to Holst. Campus security held the fire at bay with extinguishers until Waterville firefighters arrived on scene.

The fire was contained to the engine compartment, but Holst said the vehicle is likely going to be a total loss.
