OAKLAND, Maine — Eleven Colby College students are facing drinking-related charges after police say they discovered an off-campus party early Saturday morning.

Sgt. David Savage was on patrol on Tilton Point Road when he came across “a couple intoxicated kids walking down the street,” Oakland police Capt. Rick Stubbert said.

A subsequent investigation led police to a party happening at a house on Tilton Point Road, Stubbert said.

The five students renting the house — Jessalyn Steinam, 21; Molly Hudson, 21; Nora Barnard, 21; Melanie Ross, 22; and Sarah Barselton, 21 — were all charged with furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol, the captain said.

Stubbert said the following underage students were also charged with underage drinking: William Vietze, 20; Alison Smith, 20; Eric Nesto, 20; Christopher Smith, 19; Brian Palmer, 20, and Emily Malinowski, 18.

Saturday’s incident marks the second time this semester police in central Maine have had to deal with underage drinking involving Colby students.

In March, a rowdy party at a residence in Waterville attended by 100 Colby students resulted in two men being arrested and 90 students earning alcohol charges.
