Fire destroys Monmouth mobile home

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

MONMOUTH, Maine — A mobile home in Monmouth was destroyed by a fire early Monday morning, according to officials.

Monmouth Assistant Fire Chief Ed Pollard said crews were sent to the Back Street scene at 9:35 a.m.

Pollard said 75 percent of the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and it quickly spread to a field behind the home.

Monmouth, Winthrop, Leeds, Wales and Greene firefighters collaborated to get the blaze under control in 45 minutes, Pollard said.

The assistant chief said a cause has been undetermined and the fire started in a utility room.

The couple who rents the home were out of state on vacation, so Pollard did not know if the home was insured.
