BANGOR, Maine — A local man spent the weekend in jail after a dispute with a woman led to an altercation, police said Monday.
Gene McLaughlin, 49, is facing charges of domestic violence assault and refusing to submit to arrest, Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt said.
When police arrived at McLaughlin’s Birch Street residence just after 10 p.m. Saturday, both he and the woman were intoxicated and had been arguing, according to Hunt.
The woman also had scratches from where McLaughlin pushed her down a flight of stairs, the lieutenant said.
When Bangor police Officers Kevin Haefele and Shawn Green tried to arrest McLaughlin, he refused to cooperate, and a Taser was used to get him under control, Hunt said.
The woman did not require medical attention, Hunt said.
McLaughlin was taken to Penobscot County Jail. He since has been released on bail.
