BANGOR, Maine — An 18-year-old Old Town woman is facing theft and felony drug charges after she was caught early Friday evening with more than $500 worth of Blu-ray video discs concealed in a large bag she was carrying.

The incident that led to the arrest of Brittanie Overlock began shortly before 5:30 p.m., when she was stopped by Walmart loss prevention staff as she attempted to leave the store without paying for the items, Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt said, citing an arrest report.

During a search of Overlock’s bag, Officer Dustin Dow found a pill that turned out to be hydromorphone hydrochloride, a synthetic derivative of morphine used as a respiratory sedative and analgesic that is more potent than morphine. Dow also found a straw commonly used to snort crushed pills, Hunt said.

Overlock was charged with theft and possession of a scheduled drug. She was taken to Penobscot County Jail and since has been released on bail, Hunt said.
