NORTH BERWICK, Maine — Lead pastor of Next Level Church, Joshua Gagnon, will attempt to raise funds to furnish the new facility for his church while also trying to shatter a Guinness World Record.

Hoops for the Dream is a 24-hour free throw shooting challenge, where Gagnon will shoot free throws for 24 hours straight at Noble High School to accomplish these goals.

The event will start at 6 p.m. Friday, April 12 and go until 6 p.m. Saturday, April 13.

During the first practice session Gagnon, who has played basketball competitively at every level throughout his life, made 862 free throws in the one hour session. That pace would result in shattering the Guinness world record if he can sustain it for 24 hours.

People and organizations are asked to pledge any amount, starting at just one cent, for every shot he makes in those 24 hours.

The goal is to raise $250,000 to equip and furnish the new Next Level Church facility currently under construction at 436 Route 108 in Somersworth, NH.

Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of the month. Renderings of the finished building and updated photos and videos of the progress at www.nlc.tv/building-updates.

“I believe the church exists to bring hope to our communities and to be encouragement and if shooting free throws can help us do that, I will shoot free throws for days on end,” Gagnon said.

Over the last five years, the church has grown from 12 people in one town to four locations in three states with more than 2,000 people calling NLC their church.

Throughout the entire 24-hour event there will be free activities available for anyone who wants to participate, from kids activities to a three-on-three basketball tournament and more.

While the event will be open to the public, it will also be broadcast live online through the event website www.hoopsforthedream.com.
