ALFRED, Maine — A Massachusetts woman was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in jail with all but three years suspended on manslaughter and aggravated criminal OUI charges.
Debra Gentile, 46, also will be on probation for four years once her prison term is completed, according to York County District Attorney Kathryn Slattery.
Gentile was involved in a crash that killed 50-year old Michael Daigle of Old Orchard Beach on Dec. 12, 2010, according to Slattery.
Gentile’s SUV left the road, crashed into a fence and struck two trees. Daigle later died of his injuries, while blood tests determined Gentile’s blood-alcohol content was 0.16. The state’s legal limit is 0.08.
Cocaine and benzodiazepines were also present in her system at the time of the crash, according to Slattery.
Gentile had denied she was driving the car. Her probation conditions include substance abuse counseling, no possession of alcohol or illegal drugs, of which she is subject to random searches, no operation of a motor vehicle and having no contact with Daigle’s family members.
Gentile’s sentence also includes a $2,100 fine and a 10-year suspension of her license.
