Bevley L. Rines

PALMYRA – PALMYRA – Bevley “Bub” Rines, 88, died April 10, 2013 at Pittsfield Rehab & Nursing facility, after a period of declining health. He was born Dec. 31, 1924, in Etna, the son of Grover Cleveland and Margarete (Pelkey) Rines.
He attended Plymouth schools and attended Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield. “Bub” was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving two Battle Stars while serving in the “Battle of the Bulge” and the “Battle of Cologne.” As the war ended “Bub” was on his way to the Philippines, continued on and remained there for a year. Bevley married Nathalie Lanpher, Oct. 16, 1948, in Lisbon Falls. He was employed for H.P. Hoods Co., Newport, retiring after 38 years of service. “Bub” also had a small farm where he raised beef, pigs and had a “big beautiful garden.” He was a member and past commander of Barrows-Skidgel American Legion Post No. 105 of Newport. He was a former Little League Coach in Palmyra for a few years. He loved the outdoors especially while hunting, fishing, gardening, and cutting wood. He loved to play horseshoes and was always ready to have a game of cribbage.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nathalie L. Rines of Palmyra; two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Brenda Rines of Palmyra, Wayne and Patty Rines of Hartland; one daughter and her husband, Terrie and Frank Hersey of Winslow; one brother, Richard Rines Sr. of Lisbon Falls; 12 grandchildren, Karen, Lori, Jodi, John, Matt, Chris, Stephanie, Danielle, Stevie, Travis, Toby, Michelle; 24 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters, Jerome King, Lester King, John King, Elizabeth King, Harley Rines, Everett Rines, Lucy Burke and Carroll Rines.
Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport. Graveside funeral services with military honors, will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, at Palmyra Village Cemetery, Palmyra.
