HYDE PARK, N.Y. – George Robert Wilson, 83, died peacefully Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 2, 1929, in New Milford, Conn., the son of the late George F. and Betty Morehouse Wilson.
George was self-employed as a logger and truck driver and had a strong work ethic. He was an avid sports fan and was a member of Dutchess County Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame and a member of Beacon Semi-Pro Twilight League. He was a men’s championship bowler and a member of Men’s Championship Touch Football and was an accomplished billiards player. As a young man, he was drafted into the Minor League by the Philadelphia Phillies but due to an accident, returned home to be with his father. He loved the New York Yankees and enjoyed playing cards.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances Jenny Wilson; and sister, Georgia Jackson. George is survived by his loving children, Charles R. Wilson of New Milford, Conn., and Nancy Michaud and husband, John, of Bridgeport, Conn.; stepson, Edward Wilson and wife, Marilyn, of Afton, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Christine Wilson of Afton, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren also survive; as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 900 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, N.Y. Additional calling hours will be held 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at Daigle Funeral Home, 14 East Main St., Fort Kent, followed by a funeral Mass Noon at St. Charles Church, St. Francis.
