Man robs convenience store at gunpoint, flees with cash

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Police are searching for a suspect who held up a South Portland convenience store at gunpoint Monday evening.

South Portland police Sgt. Steve Webber said a black man entered the Big Apple on Cottage Road at 10 p.m., threatened the clerk with a handgun and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A K-9 team from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office initiated a track on the suspect, but Webster said the man was not located.

The suspect is described as standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a slim build. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, a ski mask and jeans with holes in them.
