Bangor brothers accused of attempted burglary

BANGOR, Maine — Two brothers have been charged with attempted burglary after police responded Sunday to a Smith Street residence after it was reported someone had been beaten with a baseball bat.

Joseph Ruest, 21, and his 24-year old brother Dustin Ruest each face up to five years in prison if convicted of the Class C felony.

Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday police interviewed a 28-year old man and 25-year-old woman upon arriving at the residence Sunday evening and learned the men had gained access to the apartment by smashing a window with the bat.

The sergeant said the woman suffered a sore arm and the man had a cut on his hand. The woman was treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center for her injuries and then released. The man’s injuries didn’t require treatment.

The Ruest brothers were arrested by Bangor police detectives Monday afternoon, according to Edwards. They remain at Penobscot County Jail.
