Crack cocaine, handguns seized in raid at York County motel

KENNEBUNK, Maine — State drug enforcement agents and Kennebunk police arrested a Kennebunk man on felony drug and firearm charges Monday afternoon after a raid of his room at a local motel.

Sgt. Peter Mador of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said Monday night that Shaun Barry, 23, has been charged with aggravated trafficking in crack cocaine and prohibited possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The arrest occurred at the at the Turn Pike Motel on Alewive Road, Mador said.

MDEA agents and Kennebunk police seized approximately 60 grams of crack, scales, packaging materials, almost $900 in cash and two semi-automatic pistols — one of which was loaded. Kennebunk officers also recovered property that was stolen in a January burglary.

At the time of his arrest, Barry was free on probation from Massachusetts, where he has prior convictions for drug- and firearm-related crimes. Barry was taken to the York County Jail, where his bail was set at $50,000 cash.

If convicted, Barry faces at least four years in prison, Mador said.
