Wilton man charged after assaulting police officer and case worker

By Ann Bryant, Sun Journal

WILTON, Maine — A local man is charged with assaulting a police officer and the man’s case worker Sunday at the police department in the Wilton Public Safety building.

Joseph Gephart, 18, first wanted to go to the hospital Sunday. When the staff person with him wouldn’t arrange for that, he went to the police station, police Chief Heidi Wilcox said.

Wilcox said he then decided he wanted to go to jail. The staff person and the police officer were assaulted. There was no serious injury, Wilcox said.

Gephart faces two misdemeanor charges of assault.
