DYER BROOK, Maine — A Dyer Brook man who had clergy visitation rights at the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton was arrested and charged on Friday with unlawful sexual touching.
Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, said in a statement Monday that the victim was dating an inmate at the time and John Walker met her at the Aroostook County Jail while she was visiting her boyfriend.
Walker, 65, was arrested by state police at his home at 140 Hillcrest Lane. McCausland said that Walker was providing “spiritual counseling” to the 30-year-old at his home, where the alleged offense occurred. He added that Walker may be affiliated with a small church in the area, but it is not clear if he was ever ordained.
The woman reported the incident to state police.
Detective Mark Sperrey is the primary investigator.
Walker is free on bail and will make his first appearance in Houlton District Court next month.
