H. Josephine Huckins-Corbett

CUTLER – Hazel Josephine Huckins, 94, a longtime resident of Washington County, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in Machias. Josephine was born Jan. 26, 1919, the 10th child of Keller and Helen Harmon at Hadley Lake, East Machias.

She graduated from Washington Academy in 1936 and moved to Bar Harbor to work. She worked as a waitress in the summer cottages of The Rusticators for many years. In 1945 she went to work at Bar Harbor Banking and Trust Company and retired after 20 years. She then returned to Hadley Lake. She was married to Edward E. Huckins for 50 years. After his passing, she married Purcell W. Corbett of Cutler. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Cutler Grange, and president of Susannah Wesley Guild at Jacksonville Campground. She was always taking part in church events. She will be greatly missed by her many friends.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, April 12, at the Machias chapel of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, with Pastor Patti Sears officiating. Committal will follow at Hadley Lake Cemetery, East Machias. Remembrances may be donations to: Cutler United Methodist Church, care of Maxine Porter, P.O. Box 233, Cutler, ME 04626.
