2 Portland men charged with criminal threatening, terrorizing at Bath home

BATH, Maine — Two Portland men who allegedly pounded on the door of a Bath couple while wielding knives have been charged with criminal threatening, terrorizing and several other crimes, police say.

Fadhil Alghazi, 51, and Ali K. Anthony, 41, remain in Two Bridges Regional Jail on Thursday, both charged with Class C criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and terrorizing. Alghazi is also charged with Class D assault, and Anthony is also charged with Class E indecent conduct.

Bath Police Chief Michael Field said police responded just after 9 p.m. Wednesday to a call that a man, 42, and a woman, 31, were being threatened with weapons at their home.

The alleged victims — who “are familiar” with Alghazi, Field said — told officers that Alghazi and Anthony stood at the door demanding that the male homeowner come outside, which he did not. They threatened the couple with knives, according to the alleged victims, who said Alghazi also pushed the woman when she tried to get him away, and said that Anthony also exposed himself, Field said Thursday.

The two alleged perpetrators then left the scene in a taxi, later found to be operated by Anthony and based in Portland.

Bath police Officer Garrett Olson stopped the taxi on Leeman Highway Extension shortly afterward and identified the two suspects, who were arrested without incident, Field said. An 8-inch, serrated knife allegedly used during the incident was found in the vehicle.

Anthony is being held on $10,000 cash or $50,000 surety pending a June 11 appearance at the West Bath Courthouse. Alghazi is being held on $25,000 cash bail or $100,000 surety, according to Field, with the same court date.

Police are continuing to investigate a possible motive for the incident, Field said.
