Two-car crash in Lewiston shuts down Lisbon Street after both drivers believed they had green light

By Jesse Scardina

LEWISTON, Maine — A two-car accident closed Lisbon Street in Lewiston Thursday morning when two drivers believed they each had a green light and collided at the intersection of Lisbon and Ash Streets.

Leon Cormier of Moncton, New Brunswick was driving his black Dodge truck when he collided with Christ Monihan of Auburn, who was driving a silver sedan. Each driver claimed they had a green light, and there were no witnesses, according to Lewiston police Officer Randy Hausman.

A passenger in Monihan’s vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Traffic on Lisbon Street was shut down a little after 8 a.m. when the accident occurred and remained closed so a tree struck by the truck could be cut up and removed. The road was reopened for traffic by 10:30 a.m.
