Lewiston man suffers head injuries in bat attack

By Sun Journal

LEWISTON, Maine — A local man was being treated at a Lewiston hospital early Thursday after he was struck in the head with a baseball bat Wednesday night.

It happened inside an apartment at 143 Bartlett St., police said. When an argument developed between two men, one picked up a baseball bat and struck the other in the head.

Witnesses said the victim was bleeding heavily from a deep cut as a result of the attack. When police arrived, the man was conscious but dazed. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center.

The victim was not identified.

The assailant fled, police said. Police began searching for a suspect after witnesses provided a description and other details. By early Thursday, no arrest had been made.

It was not immediately clear how many people were inside the apartment when the fight broke out.
