Richmond man dies after dirt bike accident

PITTSTON, Maine — A 22-year-old Richmond man who crashed his dirt bike in Pittston Sunday night has died from injuries suffered in the crash, a Central Maine Medical Center spokesperson said Wednesday morning.

Michael Lund, 22, died Tuesday morning at CMMC in Lewiston after he was taken there by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter Sunday night.

Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Daniel Davies said Tuesday that Lund was visiting a friend on Troop Road in Pittston when he took a ride on his dirt bike, which was not registered for public roads, shortly before 7 p.m. Lund was not wearing a helmet.

Friends of Lund went to look for him when they stopped hearing the engine revving down the road, according to Davies.

Lund fell from the bike and hit a tree, Davies said. It’s unclear what caused Lund to lose control, and no reconstruction is scheduled as it was a single-vehicle accident, Davies said.
