BANGOR – Lorna Pyzynski, 70, passed after an extended illness March 29, 2013, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Dec. 30, 1942, in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of Colby E. and Annabelle (White) Messer.
Lorna graduated from Union Central High School where she was involved in numerous clubs and was chosen to attend Dirigo Girls State. Following graduation she attended Husson College and received an associate degree in secretarial science. While attending college she lived at the Bangor YWCA where she met the love of her life, Stan Pyzynski as he attended Northern Conservatory of Music at the Isaac Farrar Mansion. They married April 11, 1965, and would have celebrated 48 years together this month. She retired as the secretary of nurses at Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center in 2008. Lorna was known for her impeccable work ethic, strong constitution, and her deep love for her family. She loved the outdoors, walking, time with her close friends, summer trips with Stan at Hermit Island and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also served on the board of Bangor Homeless Shelter and various boards for United Methodist Churches in the local area.
She was predeceased by her father, Colby Messer; mother, Annabelle (White) Messer Jameson; and stepfather, Elmer Jameson of Union. Surviving, in addition to her loving husband Stan Pyzynski; is her son’s, Brian Pyzynski of Bangor and Matt Pyzynski and wife, Jessica, of Bangor; grandchildren, Emma, Wyatt and Morgan Pyzynski of Bangor; sisters, Nancy Howard and husband, Dwight, of Union, Diane Jerome of Randolph and Lorraine Tamas and husband, Robert, of Connecticut; stepbrother, Elmer “Buddy” Jameson III of Friendship; stepsister, Priscilla Simons of Friendship; sister-in-law, Lynn (Pyzynski) Johnson and husband, Chris, of Hermon; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wants to give a special thanks to the staff of Westgate Manor for the love, compassion and care over the past 10 months.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Friday April 5, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a service of remembrance will be held 10 a.m. Saturday April 6, with Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
