ALFRED, Maine — A Kennebunkport man was convicted of three felonies and acquitted of a fourth in York County Superior Court on Friday in connection with a 2011 car crash.

David VanBlaricom, 30, was convicted of Class B aggravated assault as well as two Class C felonies — driving to endanger and reckless conduct with the use of a dangerous weapon. VanBlaricom was acquitted of Class C operating under the influence. Sentencing will be scheduled in the next couple of weeks in York County Superior Court in Alfred, a court official said.

In a press release, York County Assistant District Attorney John Connelly said VanBlaricom was traveling at about 80 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone heading west on Route 9 in Kennebunkport on June 28, 2011, when he crashed his Ford Taurus into a Toyota Camry driven by Robert McCarrick. McCarrick, 76, a Stoneham, Mass. native, was riding with passenger Eleanor McCarrick, 75, who suffered serious injuries in the crash, breaking both knees, her elbow and ankle.

VanBlaricom lost control of his car as it slid into the eastbound lane where it was broadsided by McCarrick’s Toyota. Sources at the accident said the jaws of life were needed to remove the drivers and passenger. VanBlaricom was hospitalized with serious injuries.
