HOPE, Maine — A 33-year-old Georgia man is being held at the Knox County Jail after being charged with assaulting a local woman and threatening her while holding a knife.

Billy W. Pritchard was arrested Saturday night and charged with felony domestic violence assault and domestic violence terrorizing.

Pritchard arrived from Georgia to visit the Hope woman, according to an affidavit filed by Knox County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. John Palmer.

The department received a call from someone who reported a domestic situation at the woman’s residence. Officers arrived and the woman told them that Pritchard had repeatedly struck her on the face and head over issues such as getting mad over her children’s use of a sippy cup.

The woman said he was also pacing around her house carrying a knife, saying he was ready although he was not specific about what that meant, according to the affidavit.

The charge was a felony because he had a prior domestic battery conviction in 2012, according to court papers.

Judge Susan Sparaco set Pritchard’s bail at $5,000 cash during his initial court appearance in Rockland District Court.
