WINDHAM and ORRINGTON – William A. Brown, 80, passed away with family by his side March 30, 2013, at his niece’s home after a long illness. He was born March 13, 1933, in Milo, the son of Clinton and Doris Brown.

He graduated from Milo High School, served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army, graduated from Bowdoin College and was a professor of mathematics at the University of Southern Maine, Portland, for more than 35 years. He enjoyed many years at his camp at Ebeemee Pond with his dog Fritz. He had a special love for all animals and took care of many feral cats over the years. He also enjoyed feeding the wild turkeys around his home. He had a great sense of humor and loved trying to “cheat” at cribbage. In his younger years he played a mean game of ping pong and could hold his own with a cue stick. He quietly gave to many charities and also gave generously to the alumni fund of Bowdoin College.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Nelson Brown and Lawrence Brown; and sister, Verna Coakley. He is survived by a sister, Carolyn Kelly of Milo; sister-in-law, Else Brown of Windham; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral services. He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Memorial contributions may be made to any local animal shelter. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. Condolences may be offered to his family at www.kileyandfoley.com.
