BANGOR, Maine — Town Fair Tire, which calls itself the largest tire dealer in New England, is about to get larger with the addition of a shop in Bangor, it’s northernmost location.
“This will be our sixth store in Maine and our 86th total in New England. We’re also opening another in New Hampshire at the same time,” said Jim Uliano, Town Fair Tire’s vice president of marketing.
Uliano expects to have the new store — to be located on Stillwater Avenue near the intersection with Hogan Road — open for business in July.
Uliano said Bangor has been on Town Fair’s radar for awhile now.
“We’ve been scouting locations in Bangor now for three years, but it seemed like all the prime locations have been taken,” he said Thursday afternoon.
This location became feasible after Bangor officials closed off the end of Kittredge Road that intersected with Stillwater and Hogan Road to avoid having a five-way intersection in that spot.
“It became available after some boundary lines and things were changed and modified,” said Uliano. “It’s near a major shopping center and offers easy access.”
Town Fair’s proposal was approved by the Bangor Planning Board on Tuesday night, so the construction schedule is now contingent upon building conditions, availability of contractors and weather, according to Uliano.
Town Fair, which was started 45 years ago in Fairfield, Conn., by two brothers, has stores in every New England state except Vermont.
