OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — The Old Orchard Beach Town Council voted Tuesday night to hire former Rockport town manager Robert Peabody as its interim manager.
The council voted 5-2 to hire Peabody who began work at 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to Council Vice Chair Laura Bolduc.
Peabody will be paid $1,500 per week but will receive no health insurance, she said Wednesday.
Peabody will remain in the position until the town hires a new manager, she said. The council will likely vote to advertise the manager position at its April meeting, Bolduc said.
The town received seven applications for the interim post and interviewed three, she said. The search for an interim manager moved quickly, she said, following the council’s vote on March 5 to cancel the contract with its former manager Mark Pearson.
Peabody left Rockport following a series of closed-door meetings and his being placed on paid administrative leave.
Rockport’s town manager search committee has been holding a series of closed-door meetings as well, although it will take public comments at 7 p.m. tonight before it goes back into a closed session.
