Palmyra woman indicted for $20,000 theft from community center

BANGOR, Maine — A Palmyra woman was indicted Wednesday by the Penobscot County grand jury in connection with the theft of $20,000 from the Sebasticook Valley Community Center in Newport.

Jaime Meservey, 36, was indicted on one count of theft by unauthorized taking, a class B crime.

Meservey is accused of taking cash from the center, now called the Newport Recreation Center, between November 2008 and January 2010 while she was working there as a part-time bookkeeper, according to the Maine Attorney General’s Office, which is prosecuting the case.

Her arraignment date has not been set.

If convicted, Meservey faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000. She also could be ordered to pay restitution.
