Fire destroys Sanford home

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

SANFORD, Maine — A home on Branch Road was destroyed by fire on Monday evening, according to officials.

Sanford fire Capt. Brian Smith on Tuesday said the blaze broke out at 6:40 p.m. and crews from Sanford, Wells, Kennebunk and North Berwick were on the scene shortly after.

Smith said the two-story home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Heavy black smoke was pouring out of the house, he said.

The family who lived at the home was not present at the time of the fire, the captain said. He said he did not know if they were insured.

The fire was under control in about 45 minutes, the captain said. One firefighter was treated at the scene for a sprained ankle, but no other injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation, Smith said.
