Wescott top qualifier for Sugarloaf Banked Slalom snowboarding event

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – Two-time Olympic gold medal winning snowboarder Seth Wescott posted the fastest time of the day during today’s qualifying round of the third annual Sugarloaf Banked Slalom, finishing the course in 1:19.11, more than four seconds ahead of the second place qualifier.

Defending Sugarloaf Banked Slalom champion Ryan Flynn stands in fourth place after a run of 1:24.17, and World Cup snowboarder Alex Tuttle is in sixth, following his run of 1:25.63.

The field of 157 snowboarders each had two qualifying runs today, with the faster of their two times determine their position for Sunday’s final round.

Now in its third year, the Sugarloaf Banked Slalom is a snowboard-only, open registration event, in which snowboarders young and old compete on a winding course of banked turns. The top male and female snowboarders in the Sugarloaf Banked Slalom receive an automatic entry to the 2014 Mt Baker Legendary Banked Slalom at Mt Baker, Washington.
