South Portland police find man with serious stab wounds; charges not yet filed

By Nick McCrea, BDN Staff

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Police are investigating a Friday night stabbing that sent a 39-year-old man to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police were called to 25 Palmer St. around 11:20 p.m., where they found an unidentified South Portland man unconscious at the bottom of a shared stairway in the building.

“The stabbing victim was taken to Maine Medical Center where he was treated for serious, but at last report, non-life-threatening injuries,” Sgt. Steve Webster said in a Saturday morning press release.

Police spoke to several witnesses and later located the person they say was responsible for the stabbing. The person was interviewed, but has not been charged, according to Webster.

Neither the victim nor the person suspected of stabbing him have been identified.

The case will be forwarded to the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office for review.
